150 senior data center professionals and investors gather on May 18 to discuss the future of Malaysia’s digital economy at DCD>Malaysia
DCD>Malaysia, May 18 at The Hilton’s DoubleTree Hotel saw the convening of key decision makers and thought leaders from government, financial institutions, e-commerce, manufacturing and other sectors, to consider the potential the digital landscape in Malaysia has to develop further, coupled with its synergy with its SEA neighbours.
“Malaysia has a lot of potential to grow as a regional data services hub. With investment opportunities in various key sectors, developments in the digital ecosystem and the strong push for digital adoption, as well as the recent news of Alibaba Cloud data center in Malaysia for example, Malaysia is set to stand out in the digital transformation journey in coming years. From Cloud, data center, connectivity, to data governance, DCD has once again given comprehensive coverage on these topics with international speakers to share their insights”, commented Wan Murdani Mohamad, Director of Enabling Ecosystem, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), who gave an opening address on Malaysia’s journey to becoming a digital economy.
The day delivered insights and practical strategies that the market could apply to achieve excellence in various areas of the data center space. Top local and international speakers such as Jeff Bullwinkel (Microsoft Asia Pacific & Japan), James Willman (Future-tech), Bernie Trudel (Asia Cloud Computing Association) and more dealt with key issues surrounding “Data Center and Cloud for the New Digital Economy” including cybersecurity, data sovereignty, smart cities and more.
The event also featured the SE Asia Datacenter Week Pre-event Launch with the revealing of mystery speaker, Sonu Nayyar, VP, Production Operations & IT at LinkedIn through a teaser video. Sonu together with 80 local and international speakers will be sharing their IT best practices and strategies at conference & expo DCD>Zettastructure, part of the SE Asia Datacenter Week 2017 (September 15-21, Singapore).

Supported by MDEC, VADS Berhad and ERS Solutions, the event also included Data Center Tours to the Iskandar Data Center Hub as well as VADS Berhad’s Iskandar Puteri Data Centre (IPDC). With VADS Berhad’s recent opening of a robust and structured twin core data centre, strategically located in Nusajaya, Johor to offer high value added services to enterprises and service providers in the southern region, 15 VIPs visited the site to learn about Malaysia’s first twin core facility. Together with its sister twin, Klang Valley Data Centre (KDVC), this twin core is being set up to address the growing datacenter needs both in the south, and central of Malaysia to attract enterprises who have invested facilities in Iskandar Malaysia and Klang Valley.
